SLOWING THE MARCH OF TIME
Can I delay the measured beat of time
And like a tug–of–war dig in my heels
To feel some purchase in the slipping soil
And capture for myself an added dime?
Can I by subterfuge and sleight of hand
Regain a youthful force remembered
And spin the coin with clear–sighted eye
Daring many close friends to understand?
Or does pursuit of youthfulness seem absurd
Inviting fancy hoots behind many a hand
Yet why care I for the grand applause
But staying the course with intent declared?
By youthful chat and flashy, skittish passion
Perhaps I’ll outface doubt in dainty fashion!
