Painting Macbeth

Turning to my painting of Macbeth.  I was told by a friend that the colour of Macbeth’s plaid would probably have been a middle blue.  Having completed the painting, I thought I’d check for more helpful thoughts and consequently phoned a curator of Scottish Arms and Armour in Edinburgh, cheerfully describing my work, with Macbeth shown pointing his claymore in one hand, towards Dunsinane and the enemy.  The voice on the end of the phone said that that was a pity, as the claymore didn’t enter Scottish life – and death – for another 300 years!  Collapse of proud artist. Macbeth now simply holds a large, two-handed sword disappearing top left.
