IN PRAISE OF THE KING AND QUEEN
To live and die a valiant King
A thousand years ago
And armoured up for skirmishing
Alongside dear Banquo.
On the sands of mighty rivers deep
A thousand years ago
On gleaming crags of mountains steep
Macbeth would dreaming go.
And through a battling seventeen years
A thousand years ago
The Queen trod soft among fierce tears
To heal the people so.
Macbeth and Gruoch loved Alba’s crown
And graced these many years
They fought to keep the mighty down
True justice gained with spears.
But thank the Lord they knew not what
Five hundred years would bring
Five hundred lies from the witches’ pot
And an end to everything.
