Queens Of The Gritstone Crop

Slenderest forms of silver birch

Searching, stretching skyward

Aching to reach this azure sky

Fearful their beauty lies unseen

They vie to breast the gritty crop

Each crowned a swaying queen

Of silvered day and blindfold night.
